Unic Press UK: During the quarterly consultative meeting Monday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Mahmood Yakubu presented the National Register of Voters to the political parties in line with the commission’s timeline of activities that precede the forthcoming Nigeria election.
Speaking during the consultative meeting, the INEC chairman, Yakubu said that the official number of registered voters is 84,004,084. He further disclosed that the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) has been printed/delivered to all the states of Nigeria for collection by the registered voters.
Smart card readers would be used during the General Election to confirm, verify and authenticate a registered voter, he said. In the event that the card readers fail, a registered voter would be allowed to vote as long as the PVC of the voter is genuine, verifiable.
Political parties are required to compile and submit a list of party agents not later than 14 days to the General Election that would hold on February 16, 2018.
