Iranian Navy To Send Flotilla To Atlantic On 5-Month Mission

Unic Press UK: The navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is planning to send a military ships, including its most advanced destroyer, to the Atlantic Ocean on a five-month mission, the Press TV reports

According to the Iranian navy’s deputy commander, Rear-Admiral Touraj Hassani-Moqaddam, the flotilla will depart in 2019.

“The mission will take place in line with the order issued by the chain of command. [The course towards] the Atlantic Ocean is a long one, and the Iranian naval group’s mission in the ocean could last for up to five months. Iranian helicopter-carrying destroyer Sahand is going to be one of the vessels to be included in the group,” Hassani-Moqaddam said.

Last month, the Iranian military launched its most advanced military vessel, the Sahand destroyer. The Sahand, a 1,300-ton domestically-built destroyer, which has joined the country’s Persian Gulf fleet, is capable of traveling circa some five months without refueling.
