Nigeria Election 2019: Ohaneze Says Buhari’s Niece Should Quit INEC’s Collation Committee

Unic Press UK: President-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo has expressed outrage at the appointment of President Buhari niece, Amina Zakari as head of the national collation center committee with regard to the Nigeria General Election that would hold on February 16, 2018, the Guardian newspaper reports.

In a statement, Nwodo called on Zakari to resign immediately. He said:

“I call on Amina Zakari to honourably resign. Whatever happens to our democracy tomorrow, they (INEC and Federal Government) should hold themselves responsible.”

He questioned the grounds of INEC’s decision to appoint Buhari relation to a very key position that could sway the outcome of the General Election, adding:

“It’s like Rangers VS Kano Pillars and Kano Pillars is allowed to nominate a referee. It’s impossible for justice to be done. In a civilized clime, Amina Zakari should have resigned. I expected the APC government has come to power through a free and fair election conducted by another president, they should not destroy the history. Infrastructural upgrade tops sports ministry’s 2019 to do list. With continued membership of Mrs. Zakari in the commission, the corporate personality of INEC is seriously whittled down; making her head of collation committee is worse than anything anybody can imagine.”

Reacting yesterday, a major opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) noted that the appointment of Buhari’s niece, Amina, is an invitation to violence and major political crisis in the light of the ignoble roles she played during the 2018 Governorship Election of Osun State. The party added that:

“This is the same Amina Zakari, who headed the ICT department of INEC at the time the department was accused of manipulating the INEC voters register  to accommodate fictitious, underage, alien voters… In appointing Mrs. Zakari to head the collation of this Presidential election, Prof. Yakubu has confirmed that he has been compromised and that he has already succumbed to pressure. The fact remains that there is no way Amina will not allocate votes to her blood relation, President Buhari… With Amina as the head of results collation, there is no way votes cast by Nigerians will count.”

INEC had, yesterday, announced that Amina Zakari would head its national collation center committee.
