Nigeria General Election 2019: INEC Moves To Recruit 1 Million Ad Hoc Staff

Unic Press UK: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria would employ about a million ad hoc personnel to work during the general election coming up in February 2019, the INEC commissioner of information and voters’ education, Festus Okoye said during a one-day seminar on media and gender sensitization on elections, in Abuja.

The ad hoc staff to work for INEC would be drawn from lecturers in Federal institutions, students at tertiary institutions and members of the national youth service corps to serve as “returning officers, collation officers, supervisory presiding officers and Assistant Presiding officers.”

INEC has been making elaborate arrangement to conduct a free-and-fair general elections that would hold on Saturday, 16 February 2019, 08:00:00 (Lagos time)

About a week ago, the electoral commission refuted the rumours that the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) living in Nigeria’s neighboring countries are eligible to vote and would indeed vote during the general election, saying: “… there will be no Diaspora or Out-of-Country voting for any Nigeria, in accordance with the extant provisions of the Nigerian Constitution…”
