Unic Press UK: The 54th Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) ordinary summit opened Saturday in Abuja – the capital city of Nigeria – with a welcome address by the Nigerian president and chair of the ECOWAS authority of heads of state and government, Muhammadu Buhari.
The ECOWAS commission president, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou and the special representative of the UN Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel, Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas also issued statements at the opening ceremony.
During the summit, the West African heads of government would consider a number of reports, including the reports on the political situation West African countries like Togo, Guinea Bissau, Togo; a report on the Presidential Task Force on the Trade Liberalisation Scheme; state of infrastructure; and single currency.
Also to be considered by the West African heads of government are
- 2018 Annual Report of the ECOWAS Commission President,
- Report of the 41st ordinary meeting of the Mediation and Security Council, and
- 81st ordinary session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers.
