Unic Press UK: The Founding Director of the Center for Energy and Security Studies (CENESS), Russia, and Member of the Advisory Board under the Russian Security Council, Anton Khlopkov told the Russian News Agency TASS that the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea would not carry out a complete obliteration of its nuclear arsenal save a reciprocal gesture of the United States and the Republic of Korea (South Korea) is implemented.
During a discussion on nuclear non-proliferation with some officials and members of North Korea’s expert community, Khlopkov said:
“Washington and South Korea need to understand that Pyongyang’s unilateral back-down is totally ruled out. Those who expect [Pyongyang] to surrender in such a manner – and such experts and politicians do exist, even now – are simply fooling themselves. The scenario suggested by a number of South Korean experts, under which North Korea gives up its nuclear ambitions and South Korea remains under the US nuclear umbrella, is unrealistic. In my opinion, the recognition of North Korea’s right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes should become an important element of settling the situation in the region.”
In June, the United States President and the Supreme Leader of the Democratic Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a ‘Nuclear Summit’ on the island of Sentosa, Singapore; and signed a document, agreeing to pursue sustainable stability and peace on the Korean Peninsula; a complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula; an end to the joint war games on the Korean Peninsula between the U.S. and the Republic of South Koreans.
However, a few days ago, the North Korean Supreme Leader, Kim Jong Un made a formal visit to the test ground of the Academy of Defence Science, where he supervised a newly developed ultramodern tactical weapon test, praising the officials of government, defense scientists, technicians and munitions industrial workers for a successful test of a new military weapon that would bolster the fighting capacity of the Korean People’s Army.
