Dollars-For-Contract: Ganduje In Court, Alleging Defamation Of Character

Unic Press UK: Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has instituted a writ of summons at a Federal High court sitting in Kano, alleging defamation of character by an online news publisher, the Daily Nigerian, and its publisher Jaafar Jaafar, and praying the court to award a sum of ₦3 Billion in damages.

A few weeks’ ago, a series of video recording had emerged, going viral in the social media, showing the images of Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as he received large bundles of foreign currency, and stacking the monies – believed to be a bribe – in envelopes and putting some in his ‘babariga’ – a big, loose-fitting attire, which is common in Nigeria.

Alarmed by the videos and public outcry, the Kano State House of Assembly formed a 7-man investigative committee to carry out an investigation to ascertain the veracity of the video.

Appearing before the committee last month, the Daily Nigerian Publisher and Editor-In-Chief, Jaafar Jaafar reiterated that the videos are real. He said: Jaafar said: “We invited amnesty international officials to verify the videos. We also asked our editorial adviser to ascertain the genuineness of the video. We also contacted BBC and confirmed the videos as genuine. . . “Constitutionally and ethically, we can’t disclose the identity of the person.”
