Turkey Claims Exempt From U.S. Sanctions On Iran Oil

Unic Press UK: Turkey claims exempt from the U.S. sanctions on importing Iranian oil, the Anadolu Agency reported, citing Turkey’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Fatih Donmez.

Reacting to Pompeo’s statement that eight countries would be granted waivers from the U.S. oil sanctions against Iran, Donmez, who spoke to some reporters at the Turkish parliament, said:

“I want to express my pleasure for this statement. We always stated that such sanctions could negatively impact peace, stability and economies in neighboring countries like Turkey and we elaborated this reality during the talks with U.S. officials,” the Anadolu News Agency reported Friday.

Before now, precisely last month October 31, the U.S. Deputy Spokesperson of the Department Press Briefing, Robert Palladino had said that the U.S. goal remains “to get to zero oil purchases from Iran as quickly as possible. That’s not changed. . . But we are prepared to work with countries that are reducing their imports on a case-by-case basis.”

The U.S. sanction follows the declaration made on May 8, 2018, in which, the United States withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA) it inked in 2015 along with the Islamic Republic of Iran, the European Union and the P5+1 countries – China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, insisting that the deal was bad for the world and America, and demanding a new deal.
