INEC Names Political Parties For Presidential & National Assembly Elections

Unic Press UK: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria has displayed a summary of the submission of Form CF 002 for Presidential & National Assembly Elections, calling on citizens “to ascertain the personal details of the candidates to enable them take informed decisions on election day or even initiate legal action against candidates who they believe have made false claims on their Forms.”

Speaking during a media briefing at the INEC headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, the commission’s chairman Mahmood Yakubu said that 3 of the 14 activities required under the law had been concluded. He said:

“Each candidate nominated by a political party is required to provide details of his/her personal particulars. By personally completing the Form CF001 and to swear an affidavit at the Federal High Court, a High Court of a State or the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). . . Any person with reasonable ground to believe that any information on Form CF001 submitted by a candidate contains incorrect or false claims is at liberty to file an action against such candidate at the Federal High Court or the High Court of a State or FCT,” the INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu said Friday when briefing the media.

According to Yakubu, in respect of the concluded primaries for Presidential and National Assembly elections, the commission is in receipt of Form CF 001, which discloses the personal particulars of candidates; and Form CF 002, which is the list of the candidates of each of the political parties.
