Peter Obi: Corruption Kills Entrepreneurship, Professionalism & Hard Work

Unic Press UK: The vice presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi has urged all Nigerians to take seriously the fight against corruption in the country, warning that the scourge corruption kills three things, viz, entrepreneurship, professionalism and hard work.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Obi said: “We should look at the effect of corruption and go on to deal with it in the way it should. It is important that everybody becomes part of those trying to stop it because it kills three things that try to make society work. It kills entrepreneurship, professionalism and hard work, it is not about shouting about it, but dealing with it.”

In the Corruption Perception Index (CPI), which ranks 180 countries, Nigeria is ranked 148 with a CPI score of only 27 in 2017. On the index for 2017, the best performing region is Western Europe, which has an average score of 66. The worst performing regions are Sub-Saharan Africa (average score 32) and Eastern Europe and Central Asia (average score 34).

Mr Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, was, a few weeks’ ago, named the vice-presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Obi would therefore fly the party’s flag along with the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
