Unic Press UK: Appearing before the Kano State House of Assembly 7-man Investigative Committee, the Daily Nigerian Publisher and Editor-In-Chief, Jaafar Jaafar, Thursday, briefed the state’s lawmakers’ on the video recording, in which, the Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje was captured as he received large sums of money, foreign currency, alleged to be part payment of a $5 million bribe in respect of contracts awarded by the state government.
Jaafar said: “We invited amnesty international officials to verify the videos. We also asked our editorial adviser to ascertain the genuineness of the video. We also contacted BBC and confirmed the videos as genuine.”
When pressed by the committee chair to name the contractors who provided the video clips, Jaafar said: “Constitutionally and ethically, we can’t disclose the identity of the person.”
A few weeks’ ago, a series of video recording did go viral, showing the Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as he received large bundles of foreign currency, and stacking the money in envelopes and putting some in his ‘babariga’ – a big, loose-fitting attire, which is common in Nigeria.
