Zamfara Primary: INEC Has No Rights To Reject List Of Candidates’, Say APC

Unic Press UK: Nigeria ruling party the All Progressives Congress (APC) has again questioned the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the party has no candidates for the 2019 General Election.

In a statement Wednesday, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Lanre Issa-Onilu said: “We submitted list of candidates for legislative elections in Zamfara state, if INEC did not take it, it is a different thing. We have a right to submit and INEC has the legal responsibility to receive. INEC cannot disqualify candidates we all know that. We have said clearly that whatever claims that INEC is making is not correct or a true representation of what happened and we will continue to take progressive steps to ensure that INEC does what is right.”

INEC had, in a letter dated October 9, averred that the APC failed to conduct Zamfara primary election between August 18 and October 7, thereby contravening the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2019 General Election, and violating Section 87 and 31 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).
