Sahle-Work Zewde Elected Ethiopia’s First Female President

Unic Press UK: The Ethiopian parliament have chosen Sahle-Work Zewde as president, making her the country’s first female leader.

Ms. Zewde holds a degree in natural sciences from the University of Montpellier, France. She has held several top positions in the past, including:

  • Ethiopian Ambassador to France.
  • Director-General for African Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
  • Permanent Representative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
  • Director-General of the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON).
  • Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in the Central African Republic (BINUCA).
  • Sahle-Work Zewde of Ethiopia as his Special Representative to the African Union and Head of the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU).
