Two Aircraft Of The Nigerian Air Force Crash In Abuja; One Person Dead

Unic Press UK: Two military aircraft of the Nigerian Air Force crashed Friday in Abuja, the capital city of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, during flight rehearsal as the military prepares for the country’s 58th independence day celebration.

In a tweet shortly after the incident, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola‏, said: “I wish to confirm that an air incident involving 2 Nigerian Air Force aircraft taking part in the rehearsals for the 58th Independence Day Celebrations occurred this morning in Abuja. It is with a heavy heart that I regretfully announce that one of the pilots who successfully ejected from one of the F-7Ni aircraft that crashed earlier today has passed on. May his soul RIP. Additional details on the incident will be communicated later. The officer, Squadron Leader Bello Baba-Ari, has been buried in accordance with Islamic rites. We pray the Almighty grants his soul eternal rest.”

Three personnel of the Nigerian Air Force were aboard the ill-fated aircraft, and all were able to eject from the aircraft [before the crash], but one of them Squadron Leader Bello Baba-Ari later died from his injuries.
