Unic Press UK: Zimbabwe has declared a cholera outbreak in the country’s capital city, Harare, following the death of 20 people from the disease and more than 2,000 being infected, Reuters reports Tuesday citing the Minister of Health Obadiah Moyo.
“We are declaring an emergency for Harare. This will enable us to contain cholera, typhoid and whatever is going on. We don’t want any further deaths,” Moyo said as he visited a hospital in the capital city.
The cholera outbreak is the consequence of burst sewers in Budiriro and Glenview suburbs contaminating water in open wells and boreholes, said Moyo.
