Embattled INEC Chair Ask Appeal Court To Void High Court Order For His Arrest

Unic Press UK: The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has filed a suit in the Court of Appeal, praying that the court to nullify the order for his arrest which was issued by Judge Stephen Pam of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The arrest order, which was issued by Judge Pam, is with regard to Yakubu deliberate violation of several orders made by the court as he repeatedly failed to attend the Federal High Court, Abuja, in a case filed by some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In making an order for the arrest of Mahmood Yakubu, the presiding Judge Stephen Pam had said: “It is sad that the contemnor and his counsel, a senior lawyer, have chosen not to obey the orders of this court in respect of this contempt charge. The contempt of the contemnor to this court can no longer be tolerated and it should not be allowed to fester,” the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

No date has be fixed at the Appeal Court to hear the case filed by the INEC Chairman.
