Moshood Abiola To Receive Posthumous Award; June 12 Now Democracy Day In Nigeria

Unic Press UK: June 12 every year will be National Public Holiday, and will replace May 29 as Nigeria Democracy Day, President Muhammadu Buhari declared Wednesday in a press statement.

Moshood Abiola, the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 election, is to receive posthumous award of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) Nigeria’s highest honour.

12 June 1993 is historic in Nigerian history as it was the date of the Presidential Election that is believed to be the best ever conducted in the country, and an election presumably won by Abiola (popularly known as MKO). The election was not upheld as it was annulled by the military administration at the time.
