All Progressive Congress (APC): National Convention Might Hold On 23 June

Unic Press UK: The All Progressives Congress (APC) might hold a National Convention on 23 June 2018 to elect fresh national office holders, among other serious businesses.

The date 23 June was reiterated by the chairman of the convention planning committee, and Governor of Jigawa State, Abubakar Badaru, during a press briefing in Abuja, though the national secretariat has yet to rectify the proposal by the planning committee.

The current leadership of the party had, on February this year, agreed to extend the tenure of office of the National Working Committee (NWC) members, but was forced to reverse its decision when the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, withdrew support for extension and opted for fresh leadership.

Bola Tinubu, one of the notable navigators that brought the All Progressive Congress (APC) to power, is believed to have convinced President Buhari to demand that fresh elective office holders are elected this year in line with the party’s constitution.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) constitution stipulated that the tenure of elective office holders shall be four years, renewable once.
