To Keep Iran Nuclear Deal Alive, EU ‘Must’ Buy Iranian Oil – Iran Supreme Leader

Unic Press UK: The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei, says member countries of the European Union (EU) should continually buy Iranian oil, otherwise the subsisting Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) – Iran Nuclear Deal – would end up in an ashcan.

Khamenei position further reinforces the position of the government of Iran that the fresh demand of the United States is unacceptable.

Speaking during a session with many top politicians and officials from the three arms of government, Khamenei said:

“European banks should safeguard trade with the Islamic Republic. We do not want to start a fight with these three countries (France, Germany and Britain), but based on their past records, we don’t trust them either. Europe should fully guarantee Iran’s oil sales. In case Americans can damage our oil sales…, Europeans should make up for that and buy Iranian oil,” the Press TV reported.

Khamenei repeatedly accused the United States of deception, hostility, and persistently threatening and undermining the Islamic Republic “from the beginning of the [victory of the Islamic] Revolution to the present day”.

The Supreme Leader’s position is a follow-up to his earlier outbursts after the events of May 8 when the United States announced its withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran Nuclear Deal.

Khamenei warnings to the European Union, in relation to buying Iranian Oil and ensuring that EU banks safeguard Iran’s trade and businesses, seems to be a direct reaction to Monday’s press briefing in which the U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, listed twelve conditions for a new nuclear deal with Iran, saying that the Islamic Republic must:

  • Allow International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to carry out inspection without any restrictions.
  • Stop all kinds of ballistic missile programme.
  • End all kinds of uranium and plutonium enrichment.
  • Stop supporting Jihad, the Hezbollah and Hamas.
  • Declare to IAEA the full details of previous nuclear programme.
  • Support the Iraqi government.
  • Stop supporting rebels in Yemen.
  • Withdraw Iranian forces from the Syrian Republic.
  • Stop supporting terrorists – Taliban and al-Qaeda – in Afghanistan.
  • Release all the United States citizens & those of U.S. allies in custody in Iran.
  • Stop supporting militias, including Shia milita.
  • Stop threatening neighboring countries to Iran.
