Voice of Nigeria: The Federal Executive Council has approved the establishment of the Nigerian Army University in Biu, Borno State, North East Nigeria.
The approval was given at Wednesday’s cabinet meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, announced this while briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the meeting.
Adamu said the the army university would be the hub for the development of the competences of the Nigerian army personnel.
In a related development, the cabinet meeting also gave approval for the completion of two faculty buildings and cadet mess cafeteria at the Police Academy, Kano, North West Nigeria, at the cost N234 million.
Minister of the Interior, Abdurahaman Danbazzau, told journalists after the meeting that the approval was necessitated by the need to get accreditation for some programmes at the institution.
Danbazzau said the approval was sequel to a 2010 memo through which the academy was upgraded to a degree-awarding institution.
“As a result of that, and other requirements, which the academy must meet in order to have its programmes accredited, there is need to complete the projects that were started so that we can have full accreditation for the programmes,” Danbazzau said.
He said the Nigerian Universities Commission would be invited to inspect the projects after completion to accredit the programmes.
