Catholic Bishop Urges Nigerians To Get Permanent Voters Card

Voice of Nigeria: Nigerians have been urged to get their Permanent Voters Cards PVCs ahead of the 2019 general elections to enable them elect credible leaders to office.

The Archbishop of Lagos, His grace, Most Reverend Adewale Martins stated this during the 2018 Chrism Mass in Lagos.

Reverend Martins said that the acquisition of the PVCs was crucial in keying into the country’s electoral process with a view to electing leaders who are concerned about the welfare of the citizenry during the 2019 polls.

According to him, Nigeria is faced with conflicts and disturbances of both herdsmen, kidnappers and divisions, urging the leaders to use this Easter to challenge themselves to be more faithful and have respect for human lives.

“The leaders should look at Christ and use him as a model for doing that which is right for the nation,” he explained.

One of the priests, Rev. Stephen Akinsowon paid tribute to the tireless work of priests in parishes across the country saying that the Chrism Mass is celebrated for them to renew their commitment of their ordination.

He expressed the hope that this year’s Chrism Mass will revitalise their energy for more productive work, urging the priest to be true to their call and eschew anything that will bring scandal to them and the church.

“Priesthood make sacrifices of self denial. As a priest, you have to shun every spirit of inordinate acquisition of material things and preach the gospel to every creature,” he added.

The traditional Chrism Mass is held during Holy Week in every Catholic diocese in the world, usually in the cathedral church.

During this Mass, the priests, deacons and representatives of the entire diocesan community gather around their bishop, who blesses the Holy Oils for use in the coming year.

These oil include, oil of the Sick, Oil of Catechumens, and Sacred Chrism.
