Economic Council Sets Up Committee On Herdsmen, Farmers Crisis

Voice of Nigeria: Nigeria’s National Economic Council, NEC, has constituted a committee to collaborate with the Nigerian government to address the issues of impunity and violence resulting from clashes between herdsmen and farmers.

The decision to set up the committee was one of the decisions taken at Thursday’s National Economic Council meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who briefed State House Correspondents on the outcome of the meeting said the committee, which was chaired by the vice president, comprised the governors of Zamfara, Kaduna, Adamawa, Benue, Taraba, Edo, Plateau, Ebonyi and Oyo State.

Ganduje said the committee would work in accordance with President Buhari’s “commitment to ensuring that all perpetrators of violence are brought to book.”

He said the committee started its work immediately after the National Economic Council Meeting.
