Unic Press UK: One of the opposition political parties in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleged that the $1 billion (₦356.75 billion) in Nigeria’s excess crude account that was recently set aside to help enhance the help fight against the Boko Haram, a Jihad terrorist organisation, is actually a ploy by the APC-led government under President Muhammadu Buhari to divert public funds into his reelection campaign.
The approval and release of $1B by the APC led Federal Government under the guise of fighting insurgency in the Northeast is questionable and alarming. We call on @nassnigeria to interrogate this disbursement since the APC earlier told Nigerians the insurgents were defeated pic.twitter.com/l7dSmkSQUt

The PDP re-echoed its stance Monday, saying:
“We maintain that the illegal withdrawal of $1B to fund insurgency in the North East is a ruse. No amount of finger pointing will distract the fact that the @APCNigeria is trying to use the fight against insurgency to siphon money for electioneering campaign in 2019”
Speaking last week at the end of a meeting of the National Economic Council, the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, said:
“We are pleased with the federal government achievements in the insurgency war, and in that vein state governors’ have approved that the sum of $1 billion be taken from the excess crude account by the federal government to fight the insurgency war to its conclusion. The money will cover the whole array of needs which includes purchase of equipment, training for military personnel and logistics.”
