Unic Press UK: Bola Tinubu, one of the leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) that bankrolled the presidential campaign of Muhammadu Buhari in the last presidential election, said that the party’s 2019 presidential flag bearer will have to secure nomination at the ballot box, not through undemocratic processes.
Speaking to journalists – in Akure the capital city of Ondo state – at the end of a meeting of the Afenifere, a socio-cultural organization for the Yoruba people of Nigeria, Tinubu said that no individual would impose a presidential candidate on the APC, and that Buhari is a leader who strongly upholds democratic principles and the rule of law.
Tinubu stance is different to what the APC chairman John Odigie-Oyegun said recently going by the reports by Guardian Nigeria Newspapers that Oyegun said: “We are not here for a joke, change has come to Akwa Ibom State. APC has no choice not to support Buhari because of his sincerity of purpose of returning Nigeria to its lost glory.”
