Russian Amends Foreign Agent Law In Tit-for-Tat With U.S.

Unic Press UK: The State Duma, the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia, Wednesday amended the country’s foreign agent media law, thereby imposing further conditions on foreign funded media outfits operating in Russia.

The amendment is a direct response to United States Justice Department rule that compelled Russia’s media organizations operating/broadcasting from the U.S. to register as a foreign agent.

Of the 450 lawmakers, a total of 409 voted for the amendments. No one voted against them. No one abstained.

Speaking to news reporters Wednesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, said: “Any encroachment on the freedom of Russian media abroad is not and won’t be left without a strong condemnation and a tit-for-tat response of Moscow”, TASS reported.
