Russia’s Foreign Agent Law Will Have ‘Just As Much Bite’ On Media As In U.S., Says MP

Unic Press UK: Russia’s proposed law that would be a direct response to the United States law in relation to some media organizations [including Russian television broadcaster RT] being compelled by the U.S. authorities to register as a foreign agent, will have have similar effects on the U.S. media organizations operating in Russia, the Deputy Chairman of Russia’s State Duma (lower house) Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications Committee, Alexander Yushchenko, told TASS on Friday.

Yushchenko comments are an inkling of what to expect from Russian lawmakers, who are currently drafting a bill in response to the US Department of Justice ruling that the U.S. branch of the Russian television broadcaster RT must register as a foreign agent before November 13, or risk its bank accounts’ in the United States frozen and its CEO put in custody.
