The Supreme Court of Kenya annulled the first election, which was held in August 2017, citing gross irregularities – non compliance with the electoral law by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). The court ordered a rerun, but the opposition leader Raila Odinga withdrew from the race, claiming that the problems that marred the first poll had not been solved
