Egypt’s Parliament Approves Extending State Of Emergency For 3 Months

Unic Press UK: Egypt’s parliament has approved President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi decision to extend a nationwide state of emergency for three months. Egypt initially imposed a nationwide state of emergency as part of the government response to the April 2017 bombing of two churches in which about 45 people were killed. The Jihad terrorist group Daesh claimed responsibility for the fatal bombings in April 2017.

Under the Egyptian constitution, the parliament must approve a state of emergency and same legislative body’s approval is required to trigger a renewal.

A nationwide state of emergency confers further powers on government, including tthe use of special courts to handle civilian matters.
