October 1 Quit Notice: PDP Chief, Makarfi, Urges Igbo People In The North Not To Panic

Unic Press UK: Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) honcho, Ahmed Makarfi, has urged all the Igbo people resident in any part of the northern region of Nigeria to go about their legal activities without fear despite the 1st October quit notice served by Arewa youth.

Makarfi, who is the chairman caretaker committee of the PDP, spoke in Kaduna, yesterday. He said:

“If not for the measures the governors took, the matter could have gone out of control… I am confident October 1 will come and go peacefully.”

Nigerian government condemned the quit notice.

“There is zero tolerance for actions and speeches capable of inciting one part of the country against another, and the security agencies are fully on the ground to deal decisively with any individual or group that engages in incendiary activities,” the minister of information & culture Lai Mohammed was quoted by the Voice of Nigeria in June 2017.

A coalition of Northern Youth Groups, including the Arewa Youth Consultative  Forum, Arewa Citizens Action for Change, Northern Youth Vanguard, Arewa Youth  Development Foundation, Arewa Students Forum, Northern Emancipation Network, had, on 6th June 2017, issued an ultimatum demanding that all the Igbo people residing in the northern region vacate before 1st October 2017.
