President Muhammadu Buhari Chairs 1st Cabinet Meeting In 5 Months

Unic Press UK: Following his return to Nigeria after spending 105 days’ in the United Kingdom on medical leave, Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari presided today over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for the first time over a five-month period.

Buhari did preside over the meeting in “full energy”, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, told the BBC.

One of the remarkable decisions at the meeting was that the Executive Council approved a $5.792 billion [₦2 trillion] contract for the construction of the 3050 MW Mambila Hydro Electric Power Project.


President Muhammadu Buhari returned to his home country Nigeria on 19th August 2017, after spending a hundred and five days’ in the United Kingdom on medical leave.

Buhari, who arrived London, UK, on the 7th day of May 2017, on a medical leave, was treated for an unspecified ailment.

During his stay in the UK, there were several protests in Nigeria and in the UK by Nigerians who felt that the Nigerian President had spent a long time outside the country he was elected to govern.

Muhammadu Buhari was sworn-in as Nigeria President on May 2015.
