Iranian Parliament Approve $520 Million To Counter Fresh U.S. Sanctions

Unic Press UK: Iran’s lawmakers voted Sunday in favor of a bill that allows the Islamic Republic of Iran to spend more than $0.5 billion dollars on its military to counter fresh sanctions that was imposed against it in July 2017 by the United States government.

During a parliamentary session Sunday, the lawmakers agreed [in a vote of 240 lawmakers and 1 abstention] to confront what it described as “America’s terrorist and adventurous actions” by making a provision of $260 million to boost the country’s ballistic missile program and another sum of $260 million to support the Quds Force, a special forces unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards engaged in extraterritorial operations, Press TV reports.

It was on 2nd August 2017 that the U.S. President Donald Trump signed into law the ‘Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act’ thereby enacting another round of sanctions on Iran, North Korea, and Russia, which aims to further deter what it described as asymmetric and conventional activities of these state actors that threaten the United States and key allies.
