Trump Warns North Korea Of ‘Fire And Fury’ If Threat To U.S. Persists

Unic Press UK: United States President Donald Trump today sternly warned North Korea – a communist state officially known as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea – to end further threats to the U.S.

“North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen. He has been very threatening, beyond a normal statement, and as I said, they will be met with fire, fury and, frankly, power the likes of which this world has never seen before.” (Donald Trump: 8th August 2017).

A few days’ ago, precisely 5th August 2017, the United Nations Security Council passed a Resolution, which imposed further sanctions on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) in response to the country’s relentless launch of ballistic missiles, especially missiles of “intercontinental” range.

In adopting Resolution 2371 (2017) under Article 41, Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, the UNSC said that “The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea shall not supply, sell or transfer coal, iron, iron ore, seafood, lead and lead ore to other countries.” The Council also placed a ban on cooperative entities or new joint ventures with North Korea entities or individuals; and prohibited all countries from increasing the total number of work authorizations for North Korean nationals in their jurisdictions, unless approved by the Security Council Committee established pursuant to Resolution 1718 (2006).

Trump’s stern warning today, which comes a few days’ after the UNSC Resolution imposing further sanctions on North Korea was passed, is an indication of deep concerns in Washington over the current nuclear status of North Korea. This might not be unconnected with a publication today by The Washington Post, reporting that a recent assessment of North Korea’s nuclear capabilities by the U.S. intelligence officials illustrated that the communist state had produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead that could be placed on the tip of its missiles.

North Korea seems unfazed about sanctions. The communist country appears unperturbed by the views of the United States and/or the United Nations towards its nuclear weapons programme. In a publication today on KCNA website, an officer of the Korean People’s Army named Kwang Jin, said:

“It is a mistake for the U.S., quite ignorant of the DPRK, to think that sanction is almighty. The DPRK’s powerful nuclear deterrent is not the product of favorable condition or surroundings, but the one it has developed with the spirit of self-reliance and self-development, despite of the U.S. heinous moves to stifle and blockade it. Therefore, our nuclear weapons of justice will mercilessly hammer the nuclear of tyranny.”
