Boko Haram Crisis: UNHCR Concerned About Return Of Nigerian Refugees From Cameroon

Unic Press UK: The UN refugee agency has expressed deep concern over the decision of the Cameroonian government to force Nigerian refugees to return to the terror-prone north-east Nigeria.

It was estimated that 85,000 Nigerian refugees, who had fled Nigeria to Cameroon due to the Boko Haram grisly attacks, were residing in the northern part of Cameroon.

Based on the most recent reports, Cameroon had forced 2,600 refugees to return to Nigerian border villages, thereby exposing them to attacks by the Boko Haram terror group.

Cameroon decision to force Nigerian refugees and asylum seekers to return to their country constitutes a grave violation of the 1969 OAU Convention and a serious violation of the 1951 Refugee Convention, said the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
