Trump: I Won’t Attend White House Correspondents Dinner

Unic Press UK: U.S. president Donald Trump said on his Twitter account that he will not attend this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) Dinner.

In a reaction to Trump’s snub, the president of WHCA, Jeff Mason said:

“The White House Correspondents’ Association looks forward to having its annual dinner on April 29. The WHCA takes note of President Donald Trump’s announcement on Twitter that he does not plan to attend the dinner, which has been and will continue to be a celebration of the First Amendment and the important role played by an independent news media in a healthy republic. We look forward to shining a spotlight at the dinner on some of the best political journalism of the past year and recognizing the promising students who represent the next generation of our profession.”

The U.S. president said at several public fora that he is at ‘war’ with a throng in the media he believed are merchants of “fake news”. Recently, he said  “fake news” media is an enemy of the American people. “The press is out of control. The level of dishonesty is out of control,” Trump said at a news conference on Thursday, the 16th February 2017.
