Unic Press UK: The Rivers State Government (RVSG) has denied the media reports that the two armoured helicopters that were transferred to the Nigerian Air Force by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) were illegally imported into the country, claiming that the transfer was at its instance given that the two aircraft were bought by the immediate past administration in the state under Rotimi Amaechi for security purposes.
“We wrote to the federal government that it is for security use… So I wrote to the federal government to give me a waiver for us to clear the federal government refused… I then wrote a letter to Mr President… for security reasons you can give the Air Force to use.” (Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike)
Wike said it is fraudulent for any person or any government agency to now claim that the owners of the helicopters that were transferred to the Nigerian Air Force could not provide end user certificate
